The body – Signs of dehydration, and what you can do about it

Are you like most people and as soon as you get out of bed you put on the kettle or coffee machine? Reach for your first stimulant for the day. This is an habitual enjoyable experience, however not conducive to preparing the body for optimal performance for the day ahead. According to National Institute of Integrative medicine, 80% of Australians starts their day off this way.

We prepare our work for the day, get the kids ready for the day.

Why don’t we do the same for our bodies?

Case study

My friend in his 50s hated drinking water and was showing all the signs of dehydration. He was having trouble with dry flaky skin, wasn’t sleeping well, cramping when he went swimming. He needed coffees to pick himself up as he felt tired very often. He worked outdoors and had a demanding physical job.

His symptoms were becoming so bad, he finally decided to sit down with me and work out the best plan to include more water in his daily routine.

Knowledge plus experience leads the way to self-empowerment.

He visited a naturopath to measure his hydration levels. Which indicated he was 15 years older than he should be.!

Good hydration signs

  • Cell life, we are made of over 80% water. Water is the conductor in the body for chemical and electrical process. If you are not hydrated these systems in your body only work at less then optimal rates. Your energy output suffers
  • Water serves as a lubricant around joints, even as saliva so you can enjoy your food
  • The brain just can’t function without it
  • Your hormone balance depends on water
  • Helps get rid of waste from the body
  • Disperses minerals and vitamins around the body

We reframed his idea about water, which gave him the desire to start drinking water.

We started where he could best feel comfortable. Found times in his schedule where he could have water plus his coffee!

We kept a Be true Be you diary and followed those good days and bad days, until he was consistently drinking 1.5 litres of water a day. Now that may not sound like a lot to you, but for someone who hated drinking water this was a miracle and at the three months mark his hydration levels were so good, the naturopath tested him at being his ideal age not older !

His cramps stopped, he was sleeping better and didn’t feel the need for so much coffee and stimulants later in the day. Hi skin was looking better, and he had more energy.

The key is he had no reference point how he could feel so good. He didn’t know what he didn’t know! He had to be courageous and give it a go and the payoff has been in his words ‘bloody brilliant’

Give your body a water top up and feel the difference.
